Somewhere in Time

We went to the elegant Grand Hotel, built in the 1800’s, on Mackinac Island, Michigan where the movie, “Somewhere in Time” was filmed. Travelers take a ferry across the Great Lake Huron to get to the island. The transportation there is by horse and carriage or bicycle only. In the movie Christopher Reeves descends the Grand Staircase in front of the hotel while Jane Seymour ascends upward to embrace him on the stairs’ landing. The movie was set in 1912 and we visited a hundred years later in 2012. I sat on the same landing on Mother’s Day where we were taken back, for a moment, to Somewhere in Time.
