Luminous Lilacs

We planted this lilac tree in May on my daughter Andrea’s ninth birthday when it was about the same height as she was. It has grown very tall over the years. One spring morning the Eastern sunlight was illuminating the four-petal blossoms of the lilacs in clusters of violet and lavender hues. It filled my heart with joy and reminded me of my little girl’s smile and her sunny countenance. When I was young my parents planted many lilac bushes along the border of our back yard. The smell and colors of lilacs take me back to those childhood days.
